Technique

All of my work is individually hand painted on quality 100% silk, making each painting one-of-a- kind. The particular silk painting technique I use is called the Serti Technique where designs are formed using a water-based gutta resist which acts as a barrier and holds the color within the outlined areas. Non-toxic dyes are selected and carefully mixed prior to being hand painted. Special supplementary techniques, such as salting or over-painting, can also be used to create interesting lines, patterns and textures.  A combination of Serti and supplementary techniques allows me to have a distinctive form, yet also be creative with textures and colour blending. The process of steaming the painted designs produces brilliant colours.  It also removes the resist and heat sets the dyes which permits the silk fabric to be colour-fast and washable.
